Favorite 10 of 2010

I thought I would put together a list of my 10 favorite albums that were released in 2010, there were many but these are my top 10 picks.  Enjoy.

1. Arcade Fire - Suburbs
While some critics argue that this is a step backwards for arcade fire I really felt that it was the band growing up.  I saw my favorite elements from both of their previous releases (Neon Bible, 2007 and Funeral, 2004) come alive in this album.

Favorite Track: Ready To Start

2. Laura Marling - I Speak Because I Can
This is only the second studio album from Laura Marling and I already think that she is coming into her own as an artist.

Favorite Track:  Devil Spoke

3. Rogue Wave - Permalight
When this album came out I listened to it over and over and then I just forgot about it for some reason.  I am glad that I re-discovered it in writing this post, it is such a fantastic album.  It really shows a great progression of sound from Asleep at Heavens Gate (2007) and I think that there is much to come from this band.

Favorite Track: Solitary Gun

4. Ratatat - LP4
This is the fourth studio album from Ratatat (LP4, seems obvious I know) As critics seem to agree, this is not my favorite album by Ratatat but I was glad to see them still making music. An average album from Ratatat is still a pretty fantastic good album and this one has its moments for sure.

Favorite Track: Neckbrace

5. Bad Religion - The Dissent Of Man
This is the fifteenth full length album from Bad Religion in twice as many years and I am happy to say they still know how to rock.  I also saw them live this year and they definatly still know how to put on a great show.

Favorite Track: Meeting of the Minds

6. Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Brutalist Bricks
I first really discovered Ted Leo and the Pharmacists when they opened for Against Me! a few years ago and what an excellent discovery it was.  I was really excited to see them release a new album this year; mostly with selfish hopes of a tour soon (nothing yet though), they put on a great show.

Favorite Track: Bottled In Cork

7. Black Keys - Brothers
Somewhat sad to say that The Black Keys are a recent discovery, I know they have been around a while but I never got into them.  I think that my favorite album that they have done is defiantly Thinkfreakness because of the really raw bluesy sound but I absolutely enjoyed this album this year, I highly recommend it.

Favorite Track: Howln' For You

8. Vampire Weekend - Contra
This was an early 2010 release but it remained in my rotation throughout the year.  I really dug the light mood of the album, it is always a good listen.

Favorite Track: Holiday

9. Fear Factory - Mechanize
The seventh studio album from Fear Factory, their first since 2005.  This is the only metal album to make this list for me, there is just something about their driving beats that is perfect to block out background music when trying to get work done, it probably stems from the incredible percussion section.

Favorite Track: Powershifter

10. Plastic Beach - Gorillaz
It has been a long time coming for this second studio album from Gorillaz and I think it was worth the wait.  This album has the same chill feel as the first one and I really enjoyed it from end to end.

Favorite Track: Stylo
